The Developmental Risk and Cultural Resilience Laboratory examines the role of stress and culture on the mental and emotional health of children and families.

Led by Dr. Cindy Liu, this research program utilizes different methodologies to assess psychosocial stress across development and cultures and to identify risks and reduce disparities in mental health. Her work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, American Psychological Association, Sackler Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. In 2023, Dr. Liu received the Highly Cited Researcher designation from Clarivate Web of Science, awarded to scientists with the top 1% of citations in their discipline.

Dr. Liu has a joint appointment within the Departments of Pediatric Newborn Medicine and Psychiatry at Brigham and Women's Hospital and is a Tynan Faculty Research Fellow within the Connors Center for Women's Health and Gender Biology. She is a licensed psychologist and has provided expert testimony before the Massachusetts State Legislature on parent mental health. She also serves as the board member of the Massachusetts Postpartum Depression Fund and is an affiliated faculty of the MGH Center for Cross-Cultural Student Emotional Wellness.
